Created by Brendan Foley, the series marks Saloon Media’s first Canadian/UK scripted co-production
One-hour drama follows a vivacious aspiring Canadian actress and prickly British scientist who become the unlikely ‘Mulder and Scully’ of the world of ghosts
(Toronto, Canada/London, UK – April 15, 2021) – Saloon Media, a Blue Ant Studios company, announced today its collaboration with UK-based StoryFirst on its first scripted drama, Ghost Walk (8×60’). Created by Brendan Foley (Cold Courage), who also serves as showrunner on the project, the one-hour series will follow a vivacious, aspiring Canadian actress and prickly British scientist who together become the unlikely ‘Mulder and Scully’ of the world of ghosts. The series kicks off Saloon Media’s exciting new scripted slate and is the first of many Canadian/UK partnerships that the production company will reveal in the coming months. Ghost Walk was developed with the support of Canadian specialty TV channel T+E and will be produced in Ontario, Canada and York, UK.
“The world that Brendan has created is fresh and unique – unlike anything we’ve seen on television before – it has all the spooks and scares you want from a ghost drama paired with an unlikely – and often comedic – duo at the helm,” said Melissa Williamson, SVP, Scripted Content, Saloon Media. “It delivers the fun entertainment that we’re all craving right now and, thanks to our incredible partners at StoryFirst, we’re able to bring this to audiences across Canada and the UK.”
Dominic Barlow, Executive Producer, StoryFirst, added: “Brendan Foley’s scripts sparkle from page one. Ghost Walk is the perfect balance between humour and intrigue and the characters of Melissa and Conroy have all the potential to be a classic on screen partnership. We are delighted to be working with Melissa, Michael and the teams at Saloon Media and Blue Ant, in bringing this amazing show to our screens.”
“The compelling character stories and the rich historical setting that evokes a sense of eerie mystery are the perfect backdrop to offer T+E audiences this type of thrilling paranormal story that they crave,” said Sam Linton, Head of Original Content, Blue Ant Media. “We’re delighted to be involved in the development of Ghost Walk and can’t wait to see this original scripted series come to life.”
Ghost Walk will introduce audiences to Melissa Roth, an aspiring Canadian actress who takes a temporary position as a ghost walk tour guide in York, UK. After a fall down a flight of stairs, Melissa begins to see spirits. She soon teams up with a cynical, charismatic British scientist, Charles Conroy, in hopes that he will cure her in exchange for the fame and fortune he would earn proving whether or not ghosts exist. The duo develops a bond; partners investigating hauntings from historic York to rural Canada, while tumbling through the minefield of friendship and – just maybe – something more.
Saloon Media’s Melissa Williamson and Michael Kot serve as Executive Producers on Ghost Walk. Dominic Barlow will Executive Produce on behalf of StoryFirst. Sam Linton, Head of Original Content (Canada), Blue Ant Media is Executive Producer on behalf of T+E.
