Produced by Spring Films, the series offers an exclusive, all-access pass to thousands of artifacts and stories that give new perspectives on history and culture
(Toronto, ON – August 24, 2021) – Global distribution group, Blue Ant International, has acquired the international licensing rights to Secrets of the Imperial War Museum (6 x 60’; HD), a six-part series offering an exclusive, all access pass into the UK’s Imperial War Museum, a world-renowned institution with extensive collections covering all aspects of conflicts involving Britain from First World War to Afghanistan and Iraq. This thoughtful look across an array of artifacts reveals dramatic stories about ordinary lives in extraordinary circumstances. Produced by Spring Films, and commissioned for Channel 5 in the UK, the series is now available for worldwide distribution outside of the UK and Ireland via Blue Ant International.
“Secrets of the Imperial War Museum gives audiences incredible access to artifacts from past and present, offering new perspectives on history and culture,” says Solange Attwood, EVP, Blue Ant International. “After more than a year of lockdown restrictions on some of the world’s most beloved museums, this series is a rich experience that will ignite a fascination to learn more about the items and events that shaped our society.”
The collection is comprised of more than 30 million objects and 50,000 hours of film, ranging from Teddy Bears to battleships and from rare hundred-year-old archive film to GoPro digital footage shot just months ago. Secrets of the Imperial War Museum captures life affirming, and sometimes tragic stories through the eyes, memories, hard work and humour of the people associated with them. In addition, the series captures the final months of development of two new ground-breaking galleries at Imperial War Museums London: the Second World War and The Holocaust Galleries scheduled to open this autumn, and the reopening of HMS Belfast on the fiftieth anniversary of its arrival to the river Thames.
“It was a privilege to be given such unique access to the astonishing collection of artifacts and images held by the museum,” says Richard Melman Executive Producer, Spring Films. “What was wonderful to discover was the personal and powerful stories that each of them held and the pride the curators have in sharing them with the world. It’s one of the greatest insights into contemporary history I’ve been involved in.”
