(Washington, D.C. – September 14, 2021) – Love Nature, a wildlife and nature brand with linear and streaming platforms available in 135+ countries, announced today that Emmy award-winning actor, Sean Bean, has signed on to narrate its latest original documentary, Osprey: Sea Raptor (1×60’; 4K and HDR). Produced by Love Nature and CosmoVision Media Group, the one-hour, blue-chip special will profile the incredible true story of a pair of magnificent raptors, a life-long couple, as they reunite having traveled separately across continents to the same location year-after-year to raise their young. To celebrate the announcement, Love Nature released Osprey: Sea Raptor’s official trailer (available for download HERE), featuring Sean Bean’s distinct voice, truly bringing this couple’s enduring relationship and story to life.
Sean Bean’s previous work includes roles in Game of Thrones, Ronin, GoldenEye, Patriot Games and The Field. He is best known for his starring role in British television dramas, Sharpe’s Waterloo and Sharpe’s Justice; and the many other installments in the Sharpe series based on Bernard Cornwell’s novels.
“It’s a rare treat to see Osprey in my part of the world, so it’s a wonderful experience to be part of a story that gives an up-close look at these magnificent birds of prey,” says Emmy award-winning actor, Sean Bean. “The team truly immersed themselves in the life journey of these Osprey and I can’t wait to see the finished special.”
The documentary, a co-production between Love Nature and The WNET Group (PBS Nature), will roll out on Love Nature’s linear and streaming platforms, outside of the U.S. and UK, beginning this fall. Osprey: Sea Raptor will also roll out on Sky Nature in the UK. Blue Ant International will oversee the film’s international licensing and pre-sale opportunities and will be available at MIPCOM 2021.
Sean Bean’s distinctive narration brings both drama and relatability to this incredible look inside the lives of Osprey,” says Carlyn Staudt, Global General Manager, Love Nature. “The storytelling in Osprey: Sea Raptor, combined with the next-level natural history filmmaking it took to capture intimate details inside a wild nest, raises the bar on Love Nature’s commitment to bringing viewers closer to nature and wildlife.”
“Osprey are so loved the world over, and yet they lacked a definitive wildlife film. The moment I began observing the family that would become the film’s iconic subjects, I knew theirs was a story that would resonate across generations and borders,” said Jacob Steinberg, Director of Osprey: Sea Raptor and founder of CosmoVision Media Group. “Love Nature and WNET have been amazing partners and together we have delivered an intimate story that is local, yet global, and packed with scenes of tenderness and high drama.”
Osprey: Sea Raptor is an intimate family story, cast against the quiet splendor of an often-overlooked American wetland, that offers a rich look at this unique and ubiquitous aquatic raptor species known for its impressive nests, life-long partnerships, dynamic social interactions and masterful hunting prowess.
The special begins as the male osprey makes his way from South America to the Long Island Sound in the eastern United States. Having migrated separately, the pair reunites, only to find their nest nearly destroyed by winter storms while they were away. They fend off countless would-be usurpers of their territory and re-build one of the largest nests in the animal kingdom. Their family saga continues as three helpless chicks arrive, vulnerable and ravenous. Last to hatch is a scrawny and weak male, who, through his parents’ devotion and the force of his own will, battles his way to survival, and ends up being the first to fly. Alongside the osprey family’s journey through one summer season, their lives intertwine with the red foxes, bald eagles, cormorants, raccoons and coyotes in their bio-diverse habitat in the center of America’s densest urban corridor.
CosmoVision leveraged exclusive access, years of fieldwork and cutting-edge technology to capture never-before-seen animal behaviors and deliver to viewers a unique perspective and unprecedented intimacy. The film team incorporates into compelling storytelling the latest in high-frame-rate equipment, drone aerials, and infrared cameras, often utilizing custom-designed camera installations across all seasons and climate conditions.
