Toronto, ON (June 6, 2017) – Omnia Media announced today the launch of its digital production studio, which has been developing premium original short-form and long-form content throughout 2017. Coinciding with the studio launch is the release of 72 new original, short-form videos for CBC Life in Canada and Makeful, Omnia Media’s women’s lifestyle platform, in the U.S. The new slate was produced in Canada in association with CBC and includes 48 tabletop videos and four hosted series starring popular Canadian social media influencers and YouTuber creators, with a collective following of over 3.5 million followers across YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and Pinterest.
“Omnia Media has sharpened our focus to producing premium original digital content over the past year, as evidenced by several market leading distribution partnerships. This robust slate of Makeful videos and our partnership with a leading linear broadcaster, like CBC, speaks to the quality of our original productions,” said David Brown, CEO, Omnia Media.
Programming hosts include: YouTube DIY experts, Kelsey MacDermaid and Becky Wright of The Sorry Girls; sewing maven, Wendy Liu of WITHWENDY; baking expert and cookbook author, Tara O’Brady and vegan food influencer, Olivia Biermann of Liv’s Healthy Life. The entire slate of 72 videos will roll out in the U.S. on bemakeful.com as well as Makeful’s social platforms including Facebook, YouTube and Instagram. In Canada, the videos will be released exclusively on CBC Life, the Canadian public broadcaster’s destination for lifestyle content, via cbc.ca/life and, likewise, on its associated YouTube and social media platforms.
Omnia Media’s collaboration with CBC comes on the heels of its partnership with YouTube in co-producing its first digital kids series, Kings of Altlantis, released in March on YouTube Kids for YouTube Red subscribers.
This new slate of digital programming is part of Omnia Media’s commitment for Makeful to produce creative digital DIY content that captivates, inspires, empowers and entertains millennial women. In February Makeful announced the launch of 3 Minute DIY, a short-form series hosted by YouTube creator, Jeanine Amapola, that focuses on chic DIY projects that viewers can create in 180 seconds. In May, Makeful launched its craft cocktail series, Bottoms Up, with YouTube creator, Whitney Adams.
New hosted series:
Sew Boss (6 x 5-6 minutes), hosted by YouTube creator WITHWENDY, teaches the basics of DIYing a summer wardrobe. Each episode will walk audiences through a beginner-level sewing project. From sundresses and skirts to tanks and crop tops, the videos will show that anyone can create customized fashionable pieces for themselves.
The Drill Down (6 x 5-6 minutes) starring YouTube DIY experts, Kelsey MacDermaid and Becky Wright of The Sorry Girls, is a girl’s guide to power tools to empower women to take their DIY projects to the next level. In each video, the hosts will show viewers how to tackle projects that involve elements of building, such as picture frames, planter boxes, coffee tables and bookshelves, by demonstrating how to use key power tools in an accessible way.
Oven Atelier (6 x 5-6 minutes), hosted by social media star and cookbook author Tara O’Brady, makes the art of french baking accessible to viewers. The episodes will break down and demonstrate the processes and time-honored techniques to make French classics such as macaroons, madeleines, croissants and creme brulee.
Vegan Eats (6 x 5-6 minutes), hosted by Liv’s Healthy Life, Olivia Biermann, proves once and for all that vegan food is delicious. Liv uses staple vegan ingredients to create mouthwatering meals that any carnivore will love. Whether it’s macaroni and cheese, BBQ (faux) chicken pizza or a curry veggie burger, Liv shares the yummy side of veganism, one episode at a time.
New tabletop videos:
The 48 top-down videos, each 45 seconds to two-minutes in length, are broken down into six categories and offer viewers easy-to-follow demonstrations of beautiful, contemporary projects. The DIY tabletop categories include jewelry, beauty products, home decor, wedding DIY and desserts.
